Weapons for Home Security:
Benefits and Liabilities
When it comes to home security, you
know that you can never settle for second best. Otherwise, if
your systems or your techniques don’t work, there’s huge
possibility that you can become a victim of any type of crime.
As a matter of fact, there are already several home owners
today who are carrying or possessing guns and other dangerous
weapons, just to reinforce home security.
Though at first glance it may appear to be the right thing
to do, there are many human rights activists and anti-weapon
individuals who would like to argue this idea.
Why would you bring a gun into your own home when anyone,
especially children, can accidentally fire it, causing more
havoc? Why can’t anyone settle for the usual home security
devices instead?
Home Security through Weapons: The Good Side
There can be many benefits of carrying dangerous weapons as
a form of home security. Here are some of them:
1. They are portable. You can basically carry them anywhere
with you, giving you more confidence to face any attack or
threat to life. This is especially true when the criminal also
has its own weapon. Simply put, these home security devices
give you more chances to survive.
2. They can be inconspicuous. Unlike other kinds of home
security equipment such as cameras and alarm systems, which can
be pretty obvious to criminals, guns and other dangerous
weapons can be hidden in unexpected areas. In fact, you can
place them in secret drawers that none or only few would know
about them. This way, you can always have your last form of
defense if cameras and alarms were already disabled by
burglars.
3. They are extremely easy to maintain. Guns don’t require a
lot of maintenance compared to surveillance cameras and other
hi-tech gadgets. For them to become more efficient home
security equipment, you have to install the latest programs or
upgrade them.
Home Security through Weapons: The Bad Side
If there are benefits of having guns as home security
measures, there are also disadvantages, which you shouldn’t
dare ignore:
1. They can be very dangerous to children. Guns always
appear attractive to children, and if you don’t hide them
properly, they may play with them. There’s potential serious
problem that they can hurt themselves or other people.
2. You still need to confirm your possession with the law.
Even before you can utilize them as additional home security
instrument, you still have to check if there is any provision
about carrying guns in your own home. You don’t want to end up
like a criminal either because of it.
3. Guns and other dangerous weapons require adequate skill.
Unlike other home security devices, where you can always check
your manual to learn how to operate them, with guns, all you
can depend on is your skill. Hence, before you can even employ
them, you have to ensure that you have received enough training
on how to fire and disarm it.
Everybody needs and deserves to survive. But one has to also
learn to evaluate the tools at hand: can it definitely increase
protection, or will it be more of a liability?
