Home Security For Everyone: A
Necessity
Home security systems were formerly
only available to the wealthy, who had both the need to
purchase them and the money to do so. Now home security for
everyone; whether a homeowner or renter has become a necessity.
Luckily there is a range of systems available to fit just about
every budget. Whether you are looking to protect your new home
entertainment system or your automobile or just looking to keep
yourself safe from intruders, you are sure to find a system
that provides home security for everyone that will fit your
needs.
Some of the emphasis on home security for everyone is its
intrinsic do-it-yourself in nature. Trim exterior bushes and
hedges to ensure that burglars do not have a comfortable hiding
place from which to assault windows and doors. Make sure your
yard and perimeter are well lit. These simple tactics make your
home an unappealing target to thieves and they will generally
move on to greener pastures.
Home Security for Everyone: Where to Begin
The most basic feature of home security for everyone
continues to be sturdy doors and an abundance of locks for
windows and doors. A deadbolt/chain combination for the front
door should be a given, and if this feels insufficient then a
barred gate may be added. All exterior doors should have robust
locks and framing. Windows should have locks as well as a bar
for the runners, and this is the optimal setup for sliding
glass doors as well.
Home safes are becoming increasingly common. The least
expensive models are small and portable, usually hidden under a
bed or in a closet, and as a first priority are generally
designed to protect the contents from fire. More elaborate
models can be mounted into the wall, hidden behind a painting
or camouflaged to be less conspicuous, and utilize a
combination lock. At the high end are so-called ‘safe rooms’
that offer fortified protection from intruders, allowing time
for law enforcement to arrive.
Older techniques continue to be viable. There will always be
a place for the trusty guard dog, and there are several breeds
that have been created specifically with this task in mind.
People are beginning to rediscover the value of community, and
having good relations with their neighbors. When you are away,
it is convenient and economical to have your neighbor look
after your house, and neighborhood watch groups are becoming an
increasingly common feature of the suburban landscape.
Many people do not consider the importance of home security
until it is too late, thinking that only the wealthy need to
protect their homes. The truth is that home security for
everyone is no more a luxury. Everyone, including the wealthy
and the not-so-wealthy can benefit from proper home security
arrangements, and they can do so cheaply and easily.
