Apartment and Condo Security
Strategies
Apartment and condo strategies and how
they improve your security and their multiple benefits.
Many people believe that they are safe in their apartment or
condo, because they see a doorman, or security guard in the
lobby. Keep in mind that the management of your
building can only do so much to ensure your security
.Their main focus will be the lobby and perimeter security
of the building, so it is your responsibility to
learn ways of protecting yourself inside of the building .
Home Security for Apartments and Condos: Why You Need It
Many apartment complexes and condominiums routinely
hire private security to guard their property. Their main job
is to secure not only the building but, most of all, the lives
of tenants and their belongings. It really sounds great doesn't
it, you pay your monthly common charges or rent and you can
sleep well, knowing that you are protected by your own security
force. Since most apartment and condo owners nowadays would
prefer living in a community that is well-guarded, this
promise of safety and security is a selling point used
by many building owners and management.
Nevertheless the reality is slightly different. You see,
there are only limited guards, and they have many
responsibilities. They have to man the front desk, and
occasionally respond to situations elsewhere in the building,
and they are ultimately human and may make an error allowing
the wrong person into the building. Even if your buildings
security is top notch, there are still skilled burglars
who can get into your building and even strangers who can
obtain keys, giving them access. Therefore the promises of
guaranteed security are just that promises.
As a tenant, it is ultimately your responsibility to
develop a good home security plan against potential
crimes. The good thing is you don’t have to spend a lot of
money to implement these different strategies for
your homes security.
Here are some home security techniques that you can
definitely do on your own:
1.People in uniforms . If you don’t know the
person, then don’t allow him or her to enter your building
or unit. Otherwise, you have to make sure that you can verify
this persons identity. One easy way of doing this ,is
to take a peek in your peephole and ask for some
identification. This simple step helps keep everyone in the
building safe. If you’re in doubt, make sure to call the
company he’s supposed to be representing. It’s not good to be
too trusting these days.
2.Don’t buzz any strangers in. A common
trick used by criminals, is claiming that they are a
friend, relative, or know someone who lives in your building.
One of the best techniques for home security is to confirm the
information with the person concerned. Unless, another
tenant leaves you a message and that you have verified the
identity of the person, you should always advise the
“visitor” to come back later, when the individual he’s looking
for is at home.
3. Always keep your front door locked. If you live on a
ground floor or have windows that can be accessed by a fire
escape, keep them locked or install window bars. These are
some of the best security strategies that you can
implement. This should also be done whether you live alone or
not. the last you want is someone entering your apartment
through a door you intentionally left open. Moreover, ensure
that all locks are fortified, which means they cannot be
manipulated easily by anyone.
